Essay #1 DRAFT

Iago made a lot of bad things, he created conflicts, provocated fights, kills but not all was induced by his jelousy. I think Iago got revenge because he was looking for recognition and it was not the envy. This is my opinion because first of all Othello gave importance to Iago only when he wanted to get revenge. Second, if Iago were jealousy he would kill Cassio since the beginning. And third but not less important is that he was married with a “servant” and this made him feel tied to that social class.

Since the beginning of the movie Othello was giving order to Iago but the only moment that Othello started to give importance and hear Iago’s opinion was when Othello started to get “inseguro” about his wife faithfull. Othello “ supuestamente” valuates Iago because Iago had a big experience as a militar working for him but Iago did not received the recognition that this experience and knowledge “deserve” and instead of designating Iago as the “lieutenant” Othello designated Cassio. Iago wanted to feel that Othello needed him because he didn’t felt that he was an important or indispensable person in the group or society he was dealing. One of the Iago’s aspirations was to be “lieutenant” and this “evidencia” that he was a person that does not conforms with being at the bottom, that wants to be at a high or top position so the people give them recognition and respect them. Another thing that proves the Iago’s lag of recognition is that he made friendship with everybody, and people that want to be friend of everybody have a recognition or attention deficit. Because one thing is that you are very friendly and everybody wants to be your friend but it is different if you are doing what people want you to do (good or bad) only to gain them as friends.

When people is jealousy and angry because another person receives what they “merecen”, people “se desquitan” with that person but in this case something different occurred. Iago’s “coraje” was more with Othello than with Cassio. And this was because Othello, knowing the Iago’s experience he preferred to select Cassio. Iago did know that people with education and from high class family get this position but he “no podía” deal with it. Iago did not have to much jealous for Cassio because as I say above he knows how this things works related to society class and his really jelous was with Othello. Othello was a simple “more” and having that recognition being a person that came from the bottom was the thing that Iago was looking for. Iago was not specifically interested in the position “sino que” in the recognition and that was something that Cassio “no podía hacer” for Iago because he was not in the top.

My other reason to prove that Iago was looking for the recognition that he thinks he “merecía” is his wife. Not only Iago was from the low social class “sino que” “además” he was married with a “servant”. Think for a moment, a man from a low class society or family, it is very difficult that somebody designate him an important position so think who is gonna designate a man from a poor family and married with a “servant”. This “puso” a Iago in a very hard situation because he was on a deeper social level so it was more difficult to have the recognition he was looking for. Iago did not reflected any sign of love to Emilia in any moment so this prove that maybe Iago was “avergonzado” of Emilia. “Vergüenza” that was motivated by the reality that no body would consider a pair of servants as important persons.

I think you have a great point of view and maybe what you say in your essay is true. You have in each paragraph the main idea and you sustained it and that makes a good essay. In my opinion its ok the essay, you only have to work in the conclusion because don't have yet and check the grammar a little bit.
